2 killed in Ecija heists

CABANATUAN City – Police reported three separate robbery incidents Friday in one of which two gunmen on a motorcycle killed a business couple.

Police identified the fatalities as moneylenders Irineo Bartolome, 47, and his wife Elizabeth, 42, of Barangay Calabasa, Jaen, Nueva Ecija.

The coule just collected money in Barangay Lawang Kupang, Jaen, Nueva Ecija and were heading home at 6 p.m. on a motorcycle when the suspects riding a red Bajaj motorcycle overtook and shot them repeatedly.

The suspects took Elizabeth’s shoulder bag containing P10,000 and escaped. Recovered at the scene were five shells for .45 pistol.

In Talavera town, a woman waiting for a bus ride for Manila was robbed at knifepoint by two motorcycle-riding men at 3:45 a.m.

Police said Rhodora Galicia-Miranda, 34, of Barangay Pulong San Miguel, together with her  nephew and a niece were on the roadside when the suspects stopped in front of them.

The backrider alighted and declared a hold-up. The suspects then divested the victim of her bag containing two international cash cards, a mobile phone, assorted jewelry worth P38,000 and P20,000 cash and fled.

At 10:30 p.m., two suspects robbed the house of Turadio de Guzman, 73,  in Purok Mulawin, Barangay Lourdes, Cabanatuan City.

The suspects entered the house by destroying the rear windows. They carted away a gas tank, an electric fan and a double cassette component worth P18,000.

Police said one of the victim’s grandsons, Rodrigo Ramos, who lives nearby, was awakened. He quickly notified his grandfather who called up the police, resulting in the arrest of one of the suspects, Larry Guinto, 34, a resident of the barangay.

Guinto’s cohort, Jeffrey Cauzon, escaped.

Police recovered the stolen items  from Guinto.
